Container shortages typically occur cyclically towards the end of year (during the peak season of import and export). Additionally, prolonged COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated scarcity of containers, as this commodity is predominantly imported from China. While Vietnam has several dozen enterprises related to containers, most of them are not true manufacturers but primarily engaged in repair and refurbishment. Hence, the domestic market currently lacks self-sufficiency in container production.

In response to market demands, Hoa Phat Group has ventured into container manufacturing business, taking advantage of its proactive access to raw steel materials. This has allowed Hoa Phat to produce containers at a cost that is 5-7% lower than China’s, a market that currently holds up to 90% of the global container market share.

To achieve a sustainable competitive advantage, Hoa Phat aims to gain mastery over machinery systems and has chosen Saigon Machine, a leading enterprise in the field of steel-related machine manufacturing in Vietnam, to execute container production line.
